9th Workshop Warsaw 2013

Accommodation

Warsaw offers a great variety of accommodations. You should find convenient hotels located in the Old Town area (along the so-called King's Route) or in the very center of the city, in the proximity of the Warsaw Central railway station. The list below comprises hotels and hostels in the neighborhood of the main university campus, but there are many more to choose from. As far as the hotels (A-H) are concerned, walking to the workshop venue is the best option. While, for hotels (I-K), you might consider taking a  bus or a taxi. Please note that the workshop organizers are unable to help you with your reservation and do not provide any transportation arrangements.

Practicalities
Credit/debit cards: are in broad circulation, but some taxi cabs, small shops and cafes might not operate them. Thus, you might consider also carrying some cash. ATMs are broadly available but usually subject to commission.
Currency in Poland is Polish Złoty (PLN). 1 EUR is approx. 4.1 PLN, 1 USD is approx. 3.1 PLN.
As a rule, EUR is not in circulation, but might be sometimes accepted in tourist places. Be aware that exchange rates in tourist places and airports are usually disadvantageous.
Prices: Depending on type of goods, price levels are slightly lower than in other major European capitals.
Safety: By European capitals standards, Warsaw is a safe place. Still, you should be cautious against pick-pocketers in tourist places and city buses, fraudsters offering taxi services at airports and rail terminals as well as against ATM „phishing”.
Shopping: Shops are usually open from Monday to Saturday, between 9am and 6pm. Shopping malls and supermarkets are usually open from Monday to Sunday, between 9am and 9 pm.
Tips: It is customary to tip waiters in restaurants/cafes (if service is satisfactory) and valets in hotels (up to 10%). Other than this, tips are welcome but not expected.
Travelling by car: May be burdensome due to high congestion and roadworks. Parking in the Warsaw city centre is difficult and subject to a parking fee. Additional information is available at:             http://www.warsawtour.pl/en/warsaw-essentials/getting-around/parking-in-the-city-1761.html.
Weather: Hard to previse. In March the temperature might be between 0 and 10 centigrade, but snowing is also possible. Evenings and nights might be cold. Rains are likely as well.
