Getting to Warsaw

By plane: Warsaw is accessible by plane from all major European airports. Direct flights are available also from New York, Chicago, Toronto, Beijing and Dubai. Most of the major airlines operate from Warsaw Frederic Chopin Airport, while low-cost carriers fly from Warsaw-Modlin Airport. Should you choose the latter option, please take into account that the Warsaw-Modlin Airport might be closed due to some technical problems. It is also not operational during fog.
By train: International trains to Warsaw operate from Berlin, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Frankfurt/Main, Basel, Paris, Nice, Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna, Prague, Moscow, Kiev, Lviv,
and Minsk. The trains arrive in the very center of the city, within walking distance from most prestigious hotels.
By car: from the west (Berlin), Warsaw can be conveniently reached by A2 motorway. Should
you arrive from other directions, please expect delays due to high congestion and extensive roadworks. We do not recommend commuting by car in the Warsaw city center, because the workshop takes place in an area where private cars access is restricted.

Travelling around the city

Public transport: Warsaw has a good public transportation network comprising of buses, trams, trains and metro. All travels can be planned using the search service jakdojade.pl (http://warszawa.jakdojade.pl/?locale=en). Tickets valid for all means of transportation can be purchased from newstands and vending machines across the city (limited time single ride, 1- and 3- day tickets are available). For further information see the site of the public transport agency http://www.ztm.waw.pl/index.php?l=2
Taxis:  Taxi  services  in  Warsaw  are  easily  available,  priced  moderately,  and  safe.   We recommend you to use only taxi services offered by certified corporations – i.e., marked with the „Taxi” sign, clear city signs and a corporate logo. The taxi cab fare should not exceed 3 PLN per kilometer in daytime. You can find useful advice on using the taxi service in Warsaw at:
http://www.warsawtour.pl/en/warsaw-essentials/getting-around/taxis-1728.html
Special notice on using taxi cabs at Warsaw airports and railway stations: Do not use taxi services offered to you by people approaching you in the arrival hall. They might try to impose a much greater fare. Regular taxi cabs wait for you in marked areas just outside the terminals. Depending on your destination and time of the day, a fare from/to Frederic Chopin Airport should not exceed 50-60 PLN, and from/to Warsaw-Modlin Airpot – 150 PLN.
City bikes: The city bike system „Veturilo” offers 2000 bikes to rent from 120 locations around the city. You can find information on how to use the city bike system at: http://en.veturilo.waw.pl/. Although the bikes are quite popular and fashionable, Warsaw does not have a very developed network of bicycle paths. Please note that it is forbidden to use bikes on bus lanes.

Getting to/from airport

Frederic Chopin Airport is located just 8 kilometers from the city center and can be reached by trains  (line  S2  and  S3),  city  buses  (175 straight  to  the  city  center or  331 to  the  nearest underground station Wilanowska), or by taxi.

Warsaw-Modlin Airport  is  located  approximately  40  km  from  the  city  center  and  can  be reached by combined train/shuttle bus connection (city tickets are not valid for this connection), shuttle bus or by taxi. Should you decide to travel from Warsaw-Modlin, please reserve extra time for possible delays.

You can find more information on airport connections at: http://www.ztm.waw.pl/?c=571&l=2
